Provincial Nominee Programs (PNP)

PNPs are immigration programs allowing provinces and territories to nominate individuals for permanent residence based on local labor market needs. By contrast, Express Entry is a federal system managing applications for economic immigration programs, including some PNPs.

Provincial Nomination Program

Immigrating to Canada through the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) requires nomination from a specific Canadian province or territory.

To start the process,
1.) apply to the PNP in your desired province or territory, meeting qualifications in skills, education, and work experience necessary for settlement.

2.) The province or territory evaluates your ability to meet their economic or labour market needs, and the application processing time is communicated to you.

3.) Upon approval, your next step is to apply for permanent residence within the specified timeframe.

The province or territory will guide you on whether to apply through the Express Entry system or the regular application process.

For Express Entry PNP stream:

If not in the Express Entry pool, create a profile and get accepted into the pool using the Come to Canada tool.

For non-Express Entry PNP stream:

Apply for permanent residence through the regular application process.
The selection process and conditions for obtaining a Provincial Nominee Certificate vary between provinces.
Refer to each province for specific requirements before applying.

Note: Quebec manages its immigration independently.
